at 鶹Ƶ of Queensland will go pink as part of its ongoing campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer.
The pink theme is also part of the decorating for “King’s in Pink”, the college’s annual fundraising luncheon held to raise money for in association with the .
“It’s a bit quirky and a whole lot of fun to have a male college raise funds for what is traditionally a female cause,” event coordinator Thérèse Eddy said.
“This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Get Physical’, and centres on preventative and restorative health.”
“King’s in Pink” will be held on Friday October 22 at the college. A highlight of the day will be a fashion parade featuring sportswear by Lorna Jane.
Olympic Gold medalist Duncan Armstrong will host as MC and Anna Dornbusch, an ABC breast cancer cluster survivor and ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, will also speak.
Last year “King’s in Pink” raised $5000 for breast cancer research. Students from King’s and The Women’s College have again volunteered to be waiters and models.
“Many of our students have had first hand experiences with breast cancer and let’s not forget that men also are susceptible to the disease,” Ms Eddy said.
“The aim of the fundraiser is to provide an opportunity for mothers and women to become more connected to the college and students, while focusing on breast cancer awareness and raising funds to fight it.”
Donations for the silent auction and raffle are still being accepted. So far, items up for bid include a Personal Best Fitness Studio package, jewelry sets, Lorna Jane athletic outfits and local restaurant vouchers.
King’s in Pink takes place at noon on Friday, October 22. Tickets cost $60, and available for purchase by contacting Thérèse Eddy or Sue Eekelschot.
