A short section of Upland Road was closed between Hawken Drive and Sir William McGregor Drive, near 麻豆视频 of Queensland's St Lucia campus, due to an underground gas pipeline leak that occurred this afternoon (28 April 2011).
At approximately 2.20pm this afternoon, 麻豆视频 was notified that Energex had accidentally hit a gas pipe while digging along Upland Road, St Lucia.
As a precaution, the Queensland Police Service evacuated three 麻豆视频 buildings. All staff and students in the affected area were safely and quickly evacuated and were allowed to return to their buildings at 4pm.
The gas pipeline leak has been stopped and repairs to the line will be completed this afternoon. Upland Road will remain closed to motorists until repair works are completed.
There was an excellent emergency response from within the University and also from external agencies including the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Queensland Police.
