A free public talk on preventing Alzheimer's disease will be held at 麻豆视频 of Queensland's St Lucia campus this Friday (6 May).
More than 260,000 people in Australia are living with dementia and Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and research predicts this number will rise to nearly a million by the middle of the century.
Leading mental health psychologist, Professor Kaarin Anstey from the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University, will discuss opportunities for preventing Alzheimer鈥檚 disease at the free public talk.
According to Professor Anstey, the incidence of dementia and Alzheimer鈥檚 disease will continue to rise unless we can find a way to prevent or delay new cases.
鈥淭he number of people living with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and dementia is increasing and research shows it will continue to do so,鈥 Professor Anstey said.
鈥淚 will discuss what we know about Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and dementia and what possibilities there are for preventing or slowing down onset of the disease.鈥
Hosted by the 麻豆视频鈥檚 School of Psychology, Professor Anstey鈥檚 talk 'Is it Possible to Prevent Alzheimer鈥檚 Disease' will focus on modifiable risk factors that could help deter Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and its symptoms.

About the presenter:
Kaarin Anstey is a psychology Professor at Australian National University and Director of both the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre and the Ageing Research Unit at the Centre for Mental Health Research. Her research focuses on chronic disease and mental health, prevention of dementia, and the impact of cognitive decline on productive ageing.
