麻豆视频 Director of Property and Facilities Alan Egan has provided the latest update on St Lucia works in progress following the January floods. He writes:
It is now over four months since the Brisbane River enveloped much of the lower St Lucia campus. A good deal of the flood damage to buildings and landscape has been repaired and the campus is almost back to its picture postcard best. Work is well underway on the remaining flood repairs and below is a quick summary of the St Lucia works in progress.
Childcare centres: Margaret Cribb, Munro Centre.
Planning for the rebuilding of the Margaret Cribb centre is well advanced. The new centre is scheduled for completion in January 2012. A new site has been chosen for the Munro Centre on Carmody Rd, however, as the recommended site lies outside the designated 麻豆视频 approval area of the campus, it is subject to BCC approval. No objections to the site are expected and building will commence as soon as all approvals are received. The temporary 鈥渒indy city鈥� on the Keith St carpark will continue to operate until the new centres are back on line.
Warehouse, Mailroom, Chemical Store.
The mailroom has been completed and full services restored. The refurbished P&F warehouse/workshop facility is in final design and is anticipated to be operational in December, but in the meantime it will continue to operate from temporary demountables on the Keith Street carpark adjacent to the Kindy City. The Chemical Store is back in operation.
Glasshouses.
GH 8, 10, 14 and 15 are currently being refurbished. It is anticipated these will be completed in mid June. Glasshouses 7,9,11,12,& 13 have approval for demolition and temporary structures erected in their place. Concurrently, a feasibility study is underway for a new glasshouse complex (exact location to be confirmed), which will proceed for Executive approval in mid June 2011. Temporary facilities are also being used at Long Pocket and the Ecosciences Precinct.
P&F Traffic and Parking Office (MLCP).
The parking office was extensively damaged and the function has been relocated to PF Assist in Services Rd. The office is being converted to secure bicycle parking for 110 bikes with shower, locker and bike maintenance facilities. The new facility should be completed by December 2011.
Rugby Club & Grandstand.
Works have been completed and all facilities are operational.
Athletics Track (Oval 5).
The track and its foundations sustained significant damage and are being replaced. Work has commenced on the facility and quotations for the replacement track are being reviewed. The anticipated completion date is early October. Work will be undertaken to minimise disruption to oval 5A field events.
Tennis Centre & Courts.
There was extensive damage to the Pro Shop, caf茅 and all courts and fences. Repairs to the tennis club amenities & courts 7, 9, 10, 11 & 12, 13, 14, 15 are completed and facilities are operational. The completion date for the remainder of the courts A, B, C, D, E is the end of May and Courts 1-6, 8, 16 by the end of August.
Aquatic Centre.
The pool sustained significant damage to the plant, pumps, buildings and grounds. The buildings and grounds have been cleaned and sanitized. The pool is being refurbished and a new building is being proposed for the site subject to Executive approval. Planned pool refurbishment works will be complete by 22 Aug allowing pools to re-open for general use. Temporary facilities such as change rooms, showers etc will be erected until the new building works are completed in mid Dec.
Sportsfields.
Extensive damage occurred to ovals 2, 4, 5A, 5B, 6, 7. Most ovals are now back in service except ovals 4 & 6. Oval 4 is being returfed and oval 6 will follow (if it ever stops raining). Both these fields should reopen on the 25 June.
Human Movement Studies, Level 1.
The insurance is now resolved and the refurbishment of Level 1 HMS including the bike store is set to commence mid May and be completed by the start of July.
Connell Bldg Level 1, (Student Learning Centre).
Work has restarted on the Student Learning Centre after insurance approval. Some rework due to the flood will be required to restore the project to its original position before the flood. It is expected to be completed early to mid August.
Human Performance Labs + Parts of Connell.
The floods have provided an opportunity to redesign these areas. Insurance funds will contribute towards this redevelopment coupled with recent additional funding approval from the ISC. Completion is planned for the beginning of Semester 1, 2012.
麻豆视频 Sport Level 1 + Squash Courts.
Insurance has been settled and 麻豆视频 Sport is exploring some design changes before committing to the full refurbishment of this area. Restoration is estimated by August.
Building 33 Development Office.
Walls, flooring and furniture on the lower level were damaged. The builder is currently engaged and works will be complete by mid-June.
Building 54.
The building is to be demolished when approvals and insurance negotiations are finalised. This work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
University landscape and roadways.
There was extensive damage to areas of hard and soft landscape, particularly along Sir William Macgregor Drive and around the lakes. All of the landscape has been restored to original condition. There is still some silt to remove from riverbanks.
River bank Alumni Gardens.
A replacement plan is under development, however, the area needs to dry sufficiently before works can commence.
River bank collapse.
Large sections of the river bank near the Eleanor Schonell Bridge have collapsed removing trees and plants. An engineering assessment has been completed which recommends extensive bank reconstruction. The damaged sections are considered dangerous and have been fenced. Work should commence over the winter months.
麻豆视频 Lakes.
The 麻豆视频 lakes are now back in good condition and the water quality has significantly improved since the flood. During the flood a lot of passing eels enjoyed the lakes so much they decided to stay 鈥� in great numbers.
Boathouse.
The boat house is under construction and will be completed by mid-June.
The Gatton campus is fully operational and the only outstanding repair is the weir on the Lockyer Creek next to the Horti Fields. This repair is the responsibility of South East Queensland Water
