Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Queensland (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) in conjunction with the State Library of Queensland will once again put a spotlight on local and global architecture culture, as part of the 2012 Asia Pacific Design Library (APDL) Lecture Series.

The popular lecture series showcases both Australian and international architectural talent, with speakers travelling from as far as Japan, Spain and the US to take part.

The series of 10 free architectural lectures are open to the public, and are held every Tuesday night from 13 March until the end of May, except April 3 and 10.

Series coordinator Â鶹ÊÓƵ School of Architecture Professor Luis Feduchi said the lecture series would explore architectural issues within, around and beyond the city, providing audiences with insight into the design processes and solutions of the contemporary architect.

Speakers include renowned architects Julian Worrall from Waseda University Tokyo on 1 May, Anuradha Mathur and Dilip Da Cunha from Philadelphia on 8 May, Taira Nishizawa from Tokyo on 22 May, and Antonio Sanmartin from aSZ arquitectes Barcelona on 27 March.

Local talent will also be featured, starting with the series launch on 13 March, with a presentation by Chris Patterson of Populous Brisbane, who will discuss strategies for drawing people together for great events.

Mr Patterson was the project leader on the award-winning Suncorp Stadium, and is currently working on leading a team of 10 architects on the design of the new Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara.

The 2012 APDL lecture series will be divided into three distinct themes presented by Â鶹ÊÓƵ academics.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ's School of Architecture Professor Peter Skinner will present lectures themed around 'Queensland Architectural practice on different coastal locations'.

Andrew Wilson, also from Â鶹ÊÓƵ will present lectures themed around 'A reflective view of the Architectural interaction between Australia and Japan'.

Additionally, Professor Feduchi will present lectures by architects from diverse origins connected to American academia, all sharing an interest in 'thermodynamic phenomena'.

"We are delighted to welcome such an impressive collection of internationally distinguished architects to Brisbane, and be able to share their knowledge with local architects and design enthusiasts," Professor Feduchi said.

"Brisbane is fast earning itself a reputation as a significant architectural hub, both locally and internationally."
