Students and staff at 麻豆视频 of Queensland Gatton have displayed their artistic side at a 麻豆视频 Gatton鈥檚 Got Talent competition.
Eight musical acts were performed with first place being awarded to students Andrew Fletcher, Matt Bowhay and David Innes, who dressed as country blokes and performed a parody of the song Ticks by Brad Paisley.
鈥淲e love to sing a few songs together and this one happens to be our favourite,鈥 Mr Innes said.
鈥淚 registered Andrew and Matt without them knowing and only told them on the day so they couldn鈥檛 pull out," he said.
鈥淎t the end of the day we were fairly shocked that we won, especially seeing it was Andrew and Matt鈥檚 first time singing in public and we were only there to have a laugh, but I guess winning is something else to laugh about."
Second place was awarded to the Gatton Campus Choir and third place to Carla Archibald.
麻豆视频 Union supported the event by sponsoring The Popcorn Man to come along and provide free popcorn for all of the students.
鈥淭he day was great. We all loved the other acts and the atmosphere was amazing with Ms Daisy鈥檚 Ice Cream van and free popcorn to snack on during the show,鈥 Mr Innes said.
Gatton Campus Director and one of the judges Janelle Zahmel is happy with the new event that has been added to the social calendar.
鈥淭his is the first year we have had Gatton鈥檚 Got Talent and it is nice to see the staff and students expressing themselves creatively,鈥 Ms Zahmel said.
鈥淚 was very impressed with the calibre of the performances and also the number of spectators who came along to support them," she said.
鈥淲e had a mixture of musical acts that included a parody, rap ballad, classical rock and the Gatton Campus Choir also performed Mama Who Bore Me from the rock musical Spring Awakening."
The other two judges were Mark Pace from the Gatton-Vocational Education Centre and Andrew Slack from the Gatton Student Association.
