The will host the Annual Big Iftar Sunset Feast at Â鶹ÊÓƵ tomorrow (1 July) as part of Ramadan, a month-long religious event celebrated by more than a billion Muslims worldwide.
The event is an opportunity to learn about the Muslim culture and sample a range of traditional foods from South East Asia.
Muslims fast for 30 consecutive days from dawn until sunset during the lunar month of Ramadan, which falls this year from 17 June to 17 July.
Traditionally, the fast is broken with a family or community meal at sunset.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ Muslim Student Association Secretary and PhD student Irfan Azeezullah said he looked forward to welcoming the Â鶹ÊÓƵ community in celebrating Ramadan by sharing a free Iftar meal.
“The feast is a great way to meet others and learn about Muslim culture, as well as sampling some traditional foods generously provided by a number of local businesses,” Mr Irfan said.
“The event celebrates diversity, harmony, friendship, warmth and spirituality, and offers a rich mix of local and international culture.
“This is the sixth year running that we’ve held the Ramadan Big Iftar Sunset Feast event, and in previous years we’ve had up to 600 people attend.”
The event will be held on the lawns outside the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Centre (building 38) from 5-7pm.
Entry to the event and dinner is free and no booking is required.
