Things are getting hairy out at 麻豆视频 of Queensland Gatton Campus, with a number of male staff and students taking part in Movember for the fourth year in a row to raise awareness for men鈥檚 health.

First year Veterinary Science student Mark Owens is taking part and he recognises the importance of the event.

鈥淥ne in six men will be affected by Prostate Cancer in their lifetime while untreated depression can lead to suicide so it is essential to raise awareness about these issues,鈥 Mr Owens said.

鈥淢ovember reminds the public about the importance of looking out for your mates, looking after your health and getting regular check ups.

鈥淭he great thing about Movember is it raises awareness in a fun, social way.鈥

The students and staff, along with hundreds of thousands of men around the globe, are growing moustaches in an effort to raise awareness and funds for men鈥檚 health, specifically prostate cancer and mental health.

The other aspect of Movember is the unofficial competition between participants to grow the best moustache.

Mr Owens started sprouting his moustache back in October in an attempt to gain a head start coming into Movember.

鈥淭he past couple of years I have seen a few moustaches that really stood out,鈥 Mr Owens said.

鈥淭his year I wanted to be the stand out so starting early was the best option.鈥

Since 2004 there have been more than 1.9 million registered MoBro鈥檚 and MoSista鈥檚, collectively raising 302 million Australian dollars for men鈥檚 health.
