Flooding of the 麻豆视频 Athletics Track.
13 January 2011

(麻豆视频) will remain temporarily closed until and including Wednesday, 19 January 2011.

The campuses at St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich are closed. Staff and students should contact their supervisor for details on operations at Herston and Princess Alexandra campuses.

麻豆视频 Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Keniger said the flood levels at the St Lucia campus reached close to the flood level mark of 1974.

鈥淎lthough the majority of buildings on the St Lucia campus and other campuses have not been flood damaged, access to campuses and transport services are still restricted,鈥 Professor Keniger said.

鈥淭he clean-up process at the campuses, especially St Lucia, is not expected to commence for several days and we want to ensure that the campus is safe before we allow people back.鈥

Students, staff and the general public are asked to not come onto the campuses until further notice. Teams of 麻豆视频 security and maintenance staff are patrolling the campuses 24-hours.

A team of almost 40 staff from 麻豆视频's Property & Facilities sections, including Security and Maintenance, have remained at the St Lucia campus round the clock to secure facilities and minimise flood damage on the campus

麻豆视频 Flood Update

A lower than expected flood peak early this morning has given 麻豆视频鈥檚 St Lucia campus some reprieve.

Floodwaters are expected to stay high for the next 12 hours and it is expected to take days to do the clean up of the St Lucia campus鈥 sports facilities and 27 buildings that have been inundated.

Access to 麻豆视频鈥檚 St Lucia campus is restricted, with most access roads closed.

The majority of St Lucia鈥檚 buildings affected by flooding are sporting facilities, and maintenance and storage buildings and those that have been inundated have only had their lower floors affected.

St Lucia campus areas affected include low lying sports grounds, maintenance and storage buildings along Glasshouse Road, the swimming pool complex, tennis centre, basements of multi-level carparks, a Corporate Services building, Human Movement building, International House, The 麻豆视频 Regiment, the Margaret Cribb Child Care Centre, Munro Centre Child Care, and the basements of the Sustainable Minerals Institute and 麻豆视频 Centre. Some of the residential accommodation also experienced minor flooding.

麻豆视频鈥檚 Gatton campus is now accessible with floodwaters dropping overnight. The campus, which has been relying on back-up power generators, will have full services resumed this morning.

The Ipswich, Herston and P.A. Hospital campuses have not been affected by flooding.

Customs House in the city has escaped the floods, but does not have any power and will remain closed until further notice.

麻豆视频鈥檚 Indooroopilly Mine had its carpark inundated and some water has entered the mineshaft.

The next update on 麻豆视频 campus operations will be posted on the 麻豆视频 Homepage tomorrow (14/3/2010).

University Security will remain on campus and may be contacted for a recorded update on conditions across the St Lucia, Ipswich and Herston campuses on 07 3365 1234. In case of emergency, Security may be contacted directly on 07 3365 3333.
