The commute to and from St Lucia has been made a little easier, with a go card fare machine switched on at the Chancellor鈥檚 Place bus stop this morning.
Deputy Director Geoff Dennis said approximately 113,000 staff and students travelled to the St Lucia campus by bus each week during semester.
鈥淭his new machine means passengers will be able to top up their go card and check their balance at the bus stop 鈥� especially convenient for anyone travelling after hours,鈥� he said.
鈥淧assengers will also be able to purchase a new go card or buy a paper ticket from the machine.鈥�
Mr Dennis said with staff and student numbers continuing to increase, parking on campus during semester was sometimes difficult, making public transport a more appealing option.
鈥淭here are several public transport options for travelling to 麻豆视频 St Lucia, with the campus serviced by two bus stops and a CityCat ferry terminal,鈥� he said.
鈥淔or those who cycle, there are also bike racks scattered across campus.鈥�
Buses to and from the city and western suburbs stop at Chancellor鈥檚 Place.
The Eleanor Schonell Bridge (Green Bridge) and Boggo Road busway have helped make the St Lucia campus more accessible by public transport, with buses to and from the city, Carindale and Eight Mile Plains stopping at the 麻豆视频 Lakes station.
The 麻豆视频 CityCat terminal is just 500m from the Lakes bus station, with ferries departing between 5.27am and 11.47pm on weekdays.
TransLink advised that 17 machines were rolled out across the public transport network earlier this year, with another 23 being installed by the end of February 2011.
